Mission Statement
The mission of the PREFOG Sub-Committee is to develop a regional approach for the reduction, elimination, and prevention of fats, oils, and grease in our wastewater system. Download the complete 2010 Mission, Vision & Values Statement here.
PREFOG Strategic Planning - Posted is a planning draft for members to review and prepare to discuss for the next meeting in October. These planning items were developed by the team of folks who committed at the last meeting to work on a draft action plan for PREFOG members. We hope you will review it and then the group can formalize the plan and make actions happen! Congrats to PREFOG for the excellent start and much thanks to Tom Cash for his work putting the notes and feedback together. Excellent format, Tom! Thank you.
Highlights: 2011 Grease Summit Attendee Feedback
Erin in Lacey, WA: This is exactly what I needed as an introduction to FOG. It was presented in a way that was not too technical and over my head. All the classes were presented really well and at my level of understanding.
Nick in Lynden, WA: The summit was exactly what I wanted. As part of my job I manage the FOG program, including inspections, so it was nice to gather FOG-specific information and to network with others directly in the field. From my perspective it is good to have contacts in other cities to discuss and get another point of view on issues, so I was glad to be able to connect with you. If I can provide any help or answer any questions feel free to ask.
Jessica Shaw in Wenatchee, WA: The city staff that attended the FOG Summit said that it was a great event.

In particular, it focuses on the evolution of biodiesel away from using virgin oil feedstocks and toward the use of waste fats, oils, and greases. Other topics for discussion include the environmental considerations associated with the permitting and siting of biofuels facilities. Presenters will also touch on their experiences in participating in and conducting NEPA reviews.

- PREFOG Yahoo! Group: A Forum for FOG Professionals
With increasing interest in Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) programs following the April 5 Grease Summit in Bellevue, the benefits of collaborating and sharing our experience and expertise are clearer than ever. Northwest PREFOG group members meet quarterly. Meeting more often is difficult with limited resources, many priorities, cost of travel, etc.
APWA W. WA and PREFOG would like to highlight a potentially valuable online resource. The Yahoo! PREFOG Group is the younger sibling of the now 10-year-old Pretreatment Coordinator's Group, which provides a forum to discuss pretreatment and water quality issues among 2000+ members on three continents. On a much smaller scale, and primarily among the NW regional level, the PREFOG Group site can provide similarly fertile ground to further our collective efforts to share experiences, collaborate, and purse common FOG management objectives.
Here are two Seattle Public Utilities Fats, Oil and Grease (FOG) outreach and education flyer examples.
These are examples that other agencies are also distributing in our Westside region to sewer customers. This is a joint education/outreach campaign for fighting and reducing our FOG problems in sewers (Seattle, Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, and Lynnwood are current participating cities).
